Midnight Update: It's been a stormy Wednesday in the Mississippi Valley, with around 160 wind reports, 90 hail reports, and 6 tornado reports (in AR & MO) being reported so far. The strong to severe thunderstorms in the Mississippi Valley, have been associated with a strong cold front that will move through Kentucky on Thursday. The best timeframe for seeing thunderstorms develop looks to be in the late afternoon and evening hours (3pm - 11pm). There is the potential for strong, gusty winds up to 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. We'll be actively tracking any storms that may develop throughout the day, on ABC 36!
Tonight: We will continue to have mild conditions tonight, with a light breeze and partly cloudy skies. Overnight low temperatures will be around 61 degrees.
Thursday: The chance for rain and thunderstorms will return for Thursday, with most of the activity occuring during the afternoon and evening hours. The best timeframe for any thunderstorms, looks to be between 4pm and 9pm. The Storm Prediction Center has Kentucky under a "Slight" risk for Thursday, with the potential for gusty winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. One thing that will really dictate what we see Thursday afternoon, is how much cloud cover we have earlier in the day, and how much storm activity is occuring earlier in the day, to our west. Another limiting factor with severe weather, will be a lack of moisture over the region. Either way, the potential is there for thunderstorms to get strong late Thursday, so it will be important to keep a close watch. Thursday afternoon high temperatures look to reach 74 degrees.
Thursday Night: A cold front will move through the region from west to east Thursday night, with cooler air being ushered in. Clouds and a few lingering rain showers will linger into the early morning hours of Friday, with overnight low temperatures around 46 degrees.
Friday: We'll have a chilly start to the day with morning temperatures in the mid to upper 40s, with the chance for an isolated rain shower for the morning commute. You'll probably want a jacket for Friday, as high temperatures will be in the upper 50s, with partly cloudy skies.
Weekend: Saturday and Sunday look dry, with mostly sunny skies on Saturday with a high of 58 degrees. If you're heading out to the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland, or the UK Blue and White game, it will be a good idea to have a jacket with you, yet the sunshine should feel nice. Sunday will be a little milder with partly sunny skies and a high of 69 degrees.
Extended: Temperatures return to the 70s early next week, with a few rain showers and thunderstorms possible each day as well.
