Lightning Strike Kills Two People, Injures Others

Lighting killed two people today while they were working on a farm that straddles the Madison / Garrard County line.

A lightning strike hit a tobacco barn on Wilmot Farm as six men were working in it. The coroner said two men died at the scene.

The two killed were Scott Elam, 25, and Bobby Lee Maggard, 29. Both were from Lancaster.

Another victim went to a nearby store for help and was sent to a hospital.

Emergency responders said two ambulances went off road just to get to the victims.

Second Lightning Incident

In a separate incident, a man was struck by lightning in Northern Kentucky while moving customers off the zip line tower.

According to a report, the Creation Museum staff member was taken to a hospital in Florence. They said he was conscious and talking. He is expected to recover.

Flooding

Strong thunderstorms caused flooding in Wolfe County.

Road crews said some areas saw three feet of water accumulate and pea sized hail.

Uprooted trees took down powerlines and cut off power.

Workers said a powerline also fell on a house, which then caught on fire. Fire fighters were able to put out the fire before it spread.
