State Police on Thursday advised motorists to use caution while driving on a section of KY 40 in Martin County.

Troopers said an estimated 100-feet of roadway fell away between the 0-and-1 mile marker.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said KY 40 was down to one lane in the affected stretch and that a traffic signal had been installed.

The Cabinet said there would be periodic closings beginning the week of January 21, 2013.  The work is scheduled to be completed by January 25, 2013.
