2012 is well on its way to becoming the deadliest year on Kentucky highways since 2009.

Through the first five months there have been 299 fatalities, that's up 44 from this time last year.

Among the nearly 300 deaths, 22 were motorcycle riders.

Last year 72 total deaths were motorcycle related.

Safety experts at EKU's motorcycle classes say a fall off a motorcycle at nearly any speed could be life threatening or disabling.

Kentucky is one of thirty states without a complete mandatory helmet law.

In 1998 the law was changed to mandatory only for drivers and passengers under the age of 21 or with less than a year of experience.
