Safety Alert Issued After UK Student Assaulted In Library

UK Police put out a crime bulletin after the school says a student was assaulted at the William T. Young Library on campus.
University of Kentucky police put out a crime bulletin after the school says a student was assaulted at the William T. Young Library on campus.

Police say the assault happened around 8PM Tuesday.

The woman told police she was studying when she felt a sharp pain in her foot.

Officers inspected her foot, and found a puncture wound they say was likely made by a needle or pin.

Police got two similar reports in April of 2011.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe urges people to be "aware of their surroundings" while on campus.

He says that--even in the library--people should be aware of who and what's around them.

A man investigators describe as "suspicious" was seen in the area.

They say he's about 5'7", he was wearing a black and white cap and black shoes and carrying a silver briefcase.
