An SUV stuck in the mud led to a Corbin man stuck in jail.

The Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to a report of a possible stolen vehicle on a trail off Northland Drive, 10-miles south of London on Friday.

The deputy said he found a Ford Explorer stuck in the mud.

Investigators said the SUV's owner, Jeffery Root, told the deputy the vehicle had been stuck there for several days.

The deputy said he determined the vehicle wasn't stolen, but was stuck in the mud under the weight of 29 metal plates in the back that were suspected to have been stolen from CSX railroad tracks.

The plates are used to go between crossties and tracks for railroad tracks.

Investigators said the metal plates are valued at approximately $20 each.

The deputy said Root told him he had found the metal plates in the woods.

Jeffery Root, 36, of Corbin, was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property under $10,000, and Public Intoxication.

Root was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in London.
