Thursday evening, we expect the Urban County Council to approve two measures.
Then Lexington can begin the planning and designing to renovate Rupp, and build a new convention center.
The council's procedural vote will allow the city to receive $2.5 million for the downtown redevelopment project.
"Whenever we can build on the vitality of our city, whenever we can elevate quality of life, and quality of place in the city, that's a very big deal," said Lexington Mayor Jim Gray.
Gray says he wants the city to do this the right way, just right away.
