Rowan County Fighting Rise in Heroin

The Rowan County Sheriff's Department arrests seven people in connection to a heroin drug trafficking ring.
The Rowan County Sheriff's Department has indicted ten people, arresting seven in connection to a heroin trafficking ring that originated in Detroit, Michigan and spans three states.

The Department says the traffickers allegedly smuggled the drugs on Greyhound Buses.

They say Morehead is a key stop on a 'drug triangle' that starts in Cincinnati, then goes to Lexington and then Ashland.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Department says they've hired a full-time detective to specifically work drug related cases, and say the seven arrests show that their proactive approach is working.

They say heroin will still be prevalent in the area, since the nine-person department can only do so much to stop a region-wide drug trafficking problem.
