The Whitley County Sheriff's Department said a Rockholds woman was charged with animal cruelty after a horse had to be euthanized after being stuck in mud fighting for its life for 6-8 hours on Sunday.

Cindy Gabbard, 45, of Rockholds, was charged with Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree, according to investigators.

Whitley County Animal Control said officers had been to the same residence several times in the past on calls of horses not being properly cared for.
