Jackie Robinson made history when he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball and paved the way for future players.

“It taught me to play the game the right way and not let outside distractions really hurt me in any kind of way,” Ali Williams said. “Just to keep the right kind of head and stay straight forward.”

Robinson’s impact still hits home today.

“Never give up. Keep going,” Terrance Gore said.

Before Robinson, no African Americans played in MLB. But in 1947, the Commissioner of Baseball, Happy Chandler, a former Kentucky Governor, approved Robinson’s contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

“It's totally different,” Gore said. “The game has changed a lot since he's been through it.”
