Robbery Suspect Shot and Killed

State Police are investigating a shooting at a gas station in Mount Vernon.

State Police are investigating a shooting at a gas station in Mount Vernon.

Things are starting to get back to normal at this gas station after state police spent much of the morning, investigating after a robbery turned into a deadly shooting.

"A James E. Hensley, age 20, robbed the clerk at knifepoint and then fled the scene with money and cigarettes," says Sgt. Todd Adkins

Kentucky State Police says just seconds after the hold-up, the clerk went after Hensley and fired several shots in Hensley's direction.

One of the flying bullets hit Hensley and according to investigators, he died from the gunshot wounds.

John Eaton owns a business right next door to where the robbery turned shooting happened.

He says what took place overnight is not normal for this area.

"No it's not normal. a killing? not normal. It's important that people should be praying for both people involved in this incident. The guy that had the gun and the family of the guy that got killed. It's really bad," explains Eaton

State troopers aren't saying if the shell clerk will face any charges.
