Richmond Man Accused Of Stealing Vehicle

Ivan C. Watts, age 28, N. Keeneland Drive in Richmond, is in custody.
Police charged Ivan C. Watts, 28, of N. Keeneland Drive in Richmond, in connection with the theft of a vehicle.

Police say someone told them her vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of the Comfort Suites motel.

The woman reported that she parked the car at the motel at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday, and then went with a friend to a nightclub in Fayette County.  While at the club, police say the woman met Watts, an acquaintance, and the two returned to the motel during the early morning hours Sunday where the woman fell asleep.

Police say when the woman awakened later in the morning, Watts was gone along with her car keys and her vehicle.

Shortly after the vehicle was reported missing, officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of U.S. Bank, 200 E. Main Street.  Police say Watts was sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle at the time.  He was taken into custody and charged with theft by unlawful taking under $10,000 and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

The vehicle was returned to the rightful owner.
