Richmond Couple Arrested After Toddler's Body Found In Ohio

Two people were arrested by Richmond police after a tipster told police in Ohio they may have had something to do with a child's death.
A couple was arrested in Richmond after the remains of a child were found in Ohio Friday.

A candlelight vigil was held for Garin Niehaus, the one-year-old whose body was found 60 miles east of Cincinnati, in Hillsboro.

"I want to bring attention to this...and make sure the people responsible for this pay," said the boy's father, Ian Niehaus.

Just before midnight on Thursday, Hillsboro police said they got a report of a suspicious death of a one-year-old.

They said they were tipped off by an unidentified caller.

That caller also said the boy's mother, Whitney Johnson, and her boyfriend, Nathan Ritze, who both live together in Kentucky, might be involved.

The two were arrested by Richmond city police. Officers said they brought Johnson in for questioning.

They said that after the interview, they were able to find the child buried in a wooded area in Hillsboro.

The two adults were charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Child services took two other children that were living with Johnson and Ritze.

As of this writing, they're being held in the Madison County Detention Center, awaiting extradition.

Back in Ohio, the father of the children said he only had one concern.

"I can't do anything to change what's happened. I want to get my other two kids back. That's all that really matters right now," said Niehaus.
