Richmond Catholic Church to hold mass for newly elected Pope

It will be a time of great celebration as Pope Francis was chosen as the next spiritual leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics

RICHMOND, Ky – Pope Francis was just elected by the College of Cardinals today and St. Mark Catholic Church, 608 West Main Street, in Richmond, will hold a special Mass at 6:00 p.m. this evening.

‪New Pope is Argentina's Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the former archbishop of Buenos Aires, who takes the name Pope Francis.

"This Mass will be open to all people of all faiths – including the press,” Fr. Jim Sichko said.  “It will be a time of great celebration as Pope Francis was chosen as the next spiritual leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics.”

“This is a very exciting time for people of all faiths and especially Catholics – as we await the decision,” Fr. Jim explained.  “As Bishop of Rome, the Pope exercises his ministry in a unique way, of course, as pastor of the universal church.”

“In practically everything he does, he has special responsibility for preserving and building unity among members of the largest, most widespread and ethnically diverse organization on earth,” he said.
