The sister of former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has received probation for her role in a campaign finance scheme that allowed her brother to take money from his 2007 re-election fund.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1aintxQ ) reports Rhonda Monroe was given five years' probation Friday in lieu of a one-year sentence. She's forbidden to work for state government during that time, but Franklin Circuit Court Judge Phillip Shepherd said Monroe could later seek a reduction in her probation.

Monroe was accused of using her position as assistant executive director of the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance to help Farmer pocket leftover campaign cash with phony expense claims. She admitted to complicity in the case when Farmer pleaded guilty to state and federal charges in September.

Farmer's sentencing is scheduled for January.
