Former Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer will be arraigned earlier than expected.

Farmer was originally going to be arraigned April 30th, but his attorney, Guthrie True, said Monday that he had another trial starting in Western Kentucky on April 29th.

A federal grand jury indictment charged Farmer with four counts of misappropriating government money and property.

He's accused of using the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's money for excess gifts, then keeping the leftovers for himself. The indictment said he used his state position to obtain hotel rooms, clothing, computers, and more...also for himself.

Farmer is also accused of hiring friends who did little or no work for the department.

If convicted, Farmer could face ten years in prison and a $250,000 dollar fine for each count of misconduct. The U.S. government is also seeking $450,000 from Farmer--the amount he's accused of misusing.

The former UK basketball will be arraigned at the U.S. District Court in Lexington at 4 p.m.
