Verrazano already booked its ticket to the Kentucky Derby with a win at the
Tampa Derby a month ago. Today, staking a claim as the horse to beat on the first Saturday in may, taking the Wood Memorial in New York earlier.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, Verrazano crossed the final bridge with a narrow victory in the million dollar purse. He wins 100 points with the victory at Wood Memorial.

In California, Goldencents making Louisville coach Rick Pitino a two-time winner. After dispatching Wichita State in the final four, Goldencents - who is owned in part by Pitino, won the 750 thousand dollar Santa Anita Derby over even-money favorite Flashback.
