Recycled Glass Burns in Lawrenceburg

A pile of recycled glass catches fire in Anderson County releasing a smoke cloud seen miles away.
A pile of recycled glass caught fire Friday afternoon in Lawrenceburg, releasing a smoke cloud that could be seen for miles away.

Fire officials in Anderson County say they received the 911 call at 12:20pm from the Dlubak Glass Company on Industry Road, that one of their piles of glass was engulfed in flames.

Officials say by the time they arrived on scene half of the pile was on fire, and was too hot to get close too.

Neighboring county fire departments, including the Lexington Fire Department were called in to assist in fighting the fire.

Fire fighters say they were eventually able to get closer to the pile and put out the fire.

Officials say 'Mother Nature' also played a roll in containing the fire. They say the winds were blowing away from any of the nearby structures, and that the cooler weather helped keep the fire more under control.
