A group in Lexington protested the birth control mandate that's a part of President Obama's health care plan.

The rally was held downtown Friday afternoon.

Protestors are upset that the law requires religious-affiliated employers to offer health care plans that cover the cost of contraceptive drugs and devices.

And those employers include Catholic colleges and hospitals.

Bishop Ronald Gainer of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington took part in the rally.

He says, "What we're facing is an unprecedented and unwarranted intrusion into our First Amendment rights. The First Amendment rights of institutions, of communities and individuals of religious conscience... and for the first time the Government is encroaching upon those dictating what services we need to provide."
