Our first batch of severe weather is expected Thursday and the time to prepare is quickly ending.

Before severe weather strikes, families should have a safety plan in place. The safest room in the house should be known to the entire family, including kids, as the place to take shelter for severe weather. The room should also include blankets and your emergency kit.

When at home, one of the best ways to receive severe weather watches and warnings is through a NOAA Weather Radio. When outside or traveling, apps on smart phones and tablets can alert you to watches and warnings.
