Prairie Farms Donates 500 Gallons Of Milk To God's Pantry

On Monday, Prairie Farms made the largest donation of milk in the history of God's Pantry Food Bank in Lexington.
Prairie Farms donated 500 gallons of milk to God's Pantry Food Bank on Monday.

It was the largest milk donation in the Lexington-based food bank's history, according to organizers.

Nationally, the company donated more than 10,000 gallons of milk to Feeding America food banks.

The 500 gallon donation in Lexington translated into 8,000 servings of milk.

"Obviously, it's a perishable product so it's not something we get donated in our food barrels.  And, it's expensive to purchase.  To get an entire truckload of food really helps out our food pantries a lot and because it's so nutritious, it's very important to us," said God's Pantry Food Bank Development Director Rebecca Wallace.

Prairie Farms encouraged consumers to donate to The Great American Milk Drive, which is the first ever national program to help deliver milk to families struggling with hunger who need it most.
