Police Warn To Stay In Crosswalk After Pedestrian Was Hit

Runners beware: a man was hit while walking across a Lexington street, according to police.
Pedestrians around U.K. Campus said they are taking precautions after a man was hit by a car on South Broadway near the Red Mile area.

He was hit around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night and was taken to the hospital with what officers called life-threatening injuries.

He was not walking in a crosswalk.

"For me it's crucial to use the crosswalk. It's a tool for our safety," said Lindy Massey, a U.K. Junior whose daily jog goes right by that intersection.

Because the pedestrian was outside of the crosswalk, it is up to the officer's discretion if they issue a ticket, according to Sherelle Roberts, the Lexington Police Department's public information officer.

In this case, the driver was not given a ticket.

The Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
