Georgetown police said a temporary employee at Toyota was shot near the plant while on break Monday night.

According to police, it may have started with a robbery prior to the shooting. They said the man was driving on an access road near Toyota when he was approached by a person in another vehicle. Police said the victim and the other person argued, a gun was drawn, there was a struggle and the victim was shot in the side. Police said the victim had a gun of his own and returned fire. Police do not believe the other person was hit.

The victim left the scene and went back to Toyota, where police were called.

The man was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

Toyota said the plant was never on lockdown.

They also said the victim is a member of Kelly Services Staffing and works in the Powertrain facility.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
