A man is in the hospital and a suspect on the loose after an overnight shooting in downtown Lexington.

It happened in a parking lot near the corner of Short and Mill Streets.

When officials arrived, they found a man who had been shot three times.

He was taken to UK Hospital where he went into surgery less than an hour after the incident.

He is listed in serious condition.

Police dogs tracked a scent to a nearby parking lot, but then it was lost.

Police believe that might be where the suspect got into a car and took off.

A witness was taken to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.

The victim was also able to give some details of the incident before heading into surgery.

We’re told officials will use surveillance footage from surrounding businesses to gather evidence.
