Police: More Than 200 Tombstones Vandalized In Richmond

Richmond Police said more than 200 tombstones were vandalized in a cemetery last night and called it one of the worst cases of vandalism they’ve seen at the graveyard.

Richmond Police said more than 200 tombstones were vandalized in a cemetery last night and called it one of the worst cases of vandalism they’ve seen at the graveyard.

Bob Mott, Richmond Assistant Police Chief, said cemetery staff noticed the damage this morning when the arrived at work.

“Apparently whoever did this must have scaled up the fence and gotten over it,” Mott said.

Many of the tombstones pushed over were in an older part of the cemetery according to Mott.

People from the community visited the cemetery today to check on their loved ones grave sites.

Cemetery staff said they won’t be able to repair the tombstones until after the investigation is finished.

As of now, Mott said they don’t have any suspects of who did the damage. They might be offering a reward for anyone who has information.
