Lexington Police said a woman was home alone on Lakewood Drive when someone burglarized her house.
Officers arrested John Patton, 36, and charged him with several counts including burglary and fleeing police.
They said the woman hid under her bed and called 911.
Landscapers working in the area said several police cars showed up outside the house.
Officers said Patton busted out one of the front windows in the house and ran.
“He bust a window and this guy like dives out and takes off running,” Tyler Burke said. “And I you know they were all like stop police, which I had never seen before. It was like out of a movie.”
Police said they caught up with Patton about a block from the house.
“This is the first time I've ever seen this in my life,” Patton said. “Especially like in a nice neighborhood to see a guy just bust out of a window and dive into some bushes and take off running.”
Investigators said the woman was shook up, but she responded perfectly to the situation.
“I think what she did was perfect,” Lt. Raymond Roller said. “You try to go to a safe place and contact the police department by calling 911. And don't obviously confront the subject unless you have to.”
Officers said they are looking into other burglaries that have taken place in that neighborhood to see if they are possibly connected to Patton.
