Lexington police said it was a traffic stop that led to one of their own being taken to the emergency room.

Court documents stated Bryce Anthony Ricketts, 21, was pulled over by a police sergeant on I-64 East for reckless driving around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Those documents went on to say that Ricketts refused arrest, and tried to put the vehicle in gear to get away.

The sergeant tried to stop him, police said.

Court documents said Ricketts punched the Lexington police sergeant in the face, then began driving away with the sergeant still in the car.

Police said the sergeant fell out of the vehicle while it was still moving, and Ricketts continued to drive away down I-64 East.

Officers said Ricketts later turned himself in around nine Sunday night.

He was charged with reckless driving, fleeing and evading police, assaulting a police officer, and wanton endangerment.

Police said the sergeant was taken to Saint Joseph East and later released. They said he'll take some time off to recover.

Ricketts is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
