Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting In Winchester

Winchester police shot a woman after they say she fired at them. Police have now released the woman's name.
The Winchester Police Department responded to a gun-related call on Oxford Drive late Thursday afternoon.

Police said when they arrived, a man told them his mother-in-law threatened him with a gun.

Police said they found the mother-in-law, 50-year-old Sherry Martin, in an upstairs bedroom of the home.

Officers said they told Martin to come out of the bedroom several times.

Capt. Shannon Stone said, "Martin then opened the door and pointed and fired at the officers."

Police said they then returned fire, striking Martin.

She was transported to UK Hospital.

A neighbor, Justin Osborne, said "I just couldn't believe it cause it's normally really quiet up here. It's a real quiet place to live."

According to police, no officers were injured, but were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
