Police: Dye Pack Thwarts Bank Robbery

Police say a robbery of the Bank of the Bluegrass ended when an exploding dye pack led them to a suspect.
Lexington police have a robbery suspect in custody after the Bank of the Bluegrass was robbed Wednesday, and officers say an exploding dye pack helped lead them to that suspect.

The bank, on Martin Luther King Boulevard and Maxwell Street, was robbed just after three. Police say a man came in, and handed a teller a note, demanding money. But police say that teller also put a dye pack in the money bag.

Police say the dye pack went off when the suspect was on High and Limestone. According to police, the man took off his hoodie and dropped the money. A bank employee says he recognized the man and started chasing him.

Police later arrested and charged 59-year-old Michael Keith.
