A man accused of leading authorities on a high speed chase on busy New Circle Road in Lexington Wednesday morning has been taken from the hospital to jail.

Investigators said Joshua Garvin, 24, faces numerous charges, including Assault and Wanton Endangerment.

State Police said this all began when a red SUV, driven by Garvin, sped past a State Police detective who was in an unmarked cruiser on New Circle Road at Georgetown around 11:00 a.m.

The detective initiated a chase, going from Georgetown to Newtown Pike; then to New Circle and Nicholasville Road.

Authorities said the chase reached speeds of 90 mph.

Lexington Police got involved in the pursuit.  Investigators say an off-duty Lexington Police officer tried to use "stop sticks" on New Circle at Harrodsburg Road to stop Garvin.  The officer said Garvin tried to run him down.

Investigators said Garvin collided with two other vehicles at the Nicholasville Road overpass on New Circle.

Police said Garvin stopped within a foot of the guardrail on New Circle where it crosses over Lansdowne Drive, got out and ran down an embankment and through trees and brush to Lansdowne Drive.

Lexington Police caught up to Garvin and arrested him in the area of Alpine Court and Redding Road.  He was taken to U.K. Hospital before being taken to jail.

Police said the two people in the cars that were damaged in the chase were not seriously injured.

While the scene was being investigated, the outer loop of New Circle Road was closed for about four hours.  It reopened just after 4:00 p.m.
