A plea deal could be in the works for a Lexington Police officer accused of harassing and grabbing a 13-year-old soccer referee after a match in Scott County, according to the lawyers on both sides of the case.

The news came out of a scheduled court hearing on Wednesday for Officer Keith Spears.

If Spears pleads guilty, he would be required to pay and fine and donate $750 to the State Referee Association, according to the teen's attorney.

The attorney for Officer Spears said no formal plea offer was made on Wednesday.

Officer Spears remains on the job with the Lexington Police Department.

A member of the Police Department's Internal Affairs Division was in court observing the hearing.

The next court date is scheduled for January 2, 2014.
