A plane is struck by lightning while landing at Blue Grass Airport.

It happened Thursday as the Allegiant Air flight was landing.

“The flight coming into Lexington, it was flying through some bad weather, hit some pretty bad turbulence and then was struck by lightning,” says Jessica Wheeler, spokesperson for Allegiant Travel.

That flight did land safely.

A flight attendant was hurt, however. We’re told the attendant was standing in the aisle when turbulence hit and had to seek medical attention.

Allegiant Air is now waiting for mechanics to arrive in Lexington to assess the damage to the plane.

The plane’s next flight had to be rescheduled, leaving many Orlando-bound passengers stranded for the night.

The flight will now take place with a new plane and crew Friday morning around 10:30.
