Phone Scam Reported In Laurel County

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office warned people of a phone scam where the con artist used the names of the U.S. Postal Service and Publishers Clearinghouse to try to rip people off.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office warned people of a phone scam using two well-known names.

Investigators said a man with a heavy Eastern accent, who went by the name "James," called people claiming to be with the U.S. Postal Service.

He told callers that they had to pay a fee to have a certified package delivered to them from Publishers Clearinghouse, according to investigators.

Don't fall for it.  It's a scam.

People told investigators the phone number that showed up on their caller ID was, 876-457-3087.

Authorities said if that number or a similar number showed up on your caller ID, don't answer it.
