Investigators said a person was hit and killed by a train Thursday in Somerset.

Police said it happened just before 6:00 p.m., near West Columbia Avenue and Mill Street.

Investigators said the person was walking along the railroad tracks and when they saw the train coming, they took off running but then stopped and laid down on their stomach on the tracks.

Investigators said the conductor sounded the train's horn, but couldn't stop in time.  The person was hit and killed.

The Pulaski County Coroner said the victim was unrecognizable.

An autopsy is scheduled in an effort to identify the victim.

Investigators are trying to determine if this was an accident or intentional.
