A University of Kentucky student is in serious condition after he was stabbed about a block away from campus early Saturday morning, according to Lexington Police.

Police say a 23-year-old student was stabbed four or five times.  They say he was found near South Limestone Street and Chrysalis Court and rushed into surgery.  Police say they can’t talk with the victim until his condition improves.

“Maybe I'm just oblivious that there's danger since I walk it every night,” said Justin Beatty who lives near campus.

“I walk all around here, I keep my car right here on this corner, it doesn't move very often unless I'm going to the grocery,” said Will Maupin, who also lives near campus.

Maupin will be walking home from work early Sunday morning past the place the victim was found.  Maupin says he isn’t afraid.

“I don't have very much scuffle experience but if it came to it I could always run faster than most people so,” said Maupin.

Maupin, like most people out Saturday night, is being extra cautious.

“I'll keep a closer eye, look over my shoulder a little more but not too terribly,” said Maupin.

“I've just avoided the weird looking streets, I've tried to stick to the main roads,” said Angie Jordan Angie, a UK student who was out for a run Saturday night.

“I should walk with a buddy probably always have my phone on me look around my shoulders, be aware,” said Beatty.

Police say they searched the area for witnesses but don’t have any leads on why the student was stabbed or who may have done it.
