Lexington Police say a pedestrian was rushed to the hospital after he was hit by an SUV on New Circle Road.

It happened between 8:30 and 8:45 Tuesday night on the outer loop between Golden Way and Old Paris Road.

Police believe the man was trying to cross the road when he was struck.

He was taken to the hospital in serious to critical condition.

Police shut down traffic on the outer loop of New Circle Road between Golden Way and Old Paris Road.

They expect it to stay closed for a couple of hours.
