Post traumatic stress disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that some people get after seeing or living through a dangerous event.
Anyone can get PTSD at any age, this includes military veterans.
According to the Department of Veteran's Affairs, there are about 20,000 active duty soldiers suffering with some type of major mental illness and about 22 military veterans commit suicide everyday.
“People bury those deep psychological wounds to the point that they put on a smiling face and walk around like nothings wrong but something often is deeply troubling,” said Dr. Timothy Houchin, a psychiatrist at 360 Mental Health. He says PTSD is becoming an epidemic.
“Soldiers are actually surviving devastating injuries only to come home with these psychiatric and psychological problems, mainly PTSD,” said Houchin.
