A new "Kids Count" report says that one in four children in Kentucky live in poverty.
That ranks the state at 35th place in the nation for children's overall well-being

The report says that some contributing factors are kids who live in families where the head of the household lacks a high school diploma or a G.E.D. and that children are continuing to recover from the recession. 37% of kids live in homes where their parents are underemployed.

The number of uninsured children in the state fell by 14% from 2008 to 2010.

Kentucky youth advocate Terry Brooks is now calling for legislative action. He suggested possibilites including a refindable state income earned tax credit, tightning laws that curb predatory lending and creating programs to address health issues.
