A State Police trooper shot a man in Clark County, and that man's father says it does not pass the smell test.

State Police say all of this started, because they were investigating a tip on Cole Road outside Winchester.

The father says it was an ambush.  State Police say the suspect drew a weapon on them, and they fired.

A helicopter flew 33-year old Joel Naselroad to UK hospital with a gun shot wound to the chest.

A KSP Spokesperson says an 11-year State Police veteran show Naselroad.

His father says what happened before the shooting is unclear.

"I don't know what these people thought they were accomplishing, and I do not for a minute believe that it's just a coincidence that authorities showed up at our door at exactly the same time that Joel was going out the back door to confront an intruder," said Doug Naselroad, Joel's father.

Doug Naselroad says a trail camera in their back yard recorded a masked man covered in camouflage, and carrying weapons over the last few days.  Naselroad says his son went outside with a .25 caliber gun to catch the intruder, but instead found State Police troopers, members of the Special Investigations East Branch, and a Clark County Deputy.

"It was a possible marijuana grow operation that we received a tip on," said Trooper Robert Purdy, KSP.

Naselroad says his son was not growing pot.  State Police would not say if they found any.

"I think that their bull.  I'm sorry, their bogus story, they swear the man on the SD card is none of them, and of course the evidence is in their hands," said Naselroad.

Naselroad and his wife went to the hospital to check on their son. State Police told them Joel is recovering.

"I'm not very trusting of them right at this moment," said Naselroad.

State Police say Joel Naselroad pointed a gun at two detectives.  KSP charged him with two counts of endangering a police officer.
