One Dead, One Hospitalized In Knott County Christmas Shooting

State police said a Knott County man was shot outside his home--and another man killed--during a robbery gone wrong Christmas night.
Kentucky State Police said a man is dead and another hospitalized after a robbery gone wrong in Knott County Tuesday night.

State police said Ricky Sweet, 61, was shot outside his home at the Jamestown Village Trailer Park in Talcum around 10:30 p.m.

Troopers said one of the suspects, Aaron Pratt, 45, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said two men--including Pratt--asked Sweet to borrow gasoline, and when the 61-year-old got some from his storage building out back, the men pointed a gun and demanded money.

State police said they couldn't say who shot whom, but that Sweet was sent to Hazard ARH and later transferred to UK Hospital with at least four gunshot wounds.

Friends of Sweet said Wednesday that he would live.

Pratt's body was sent to the medical examiner's office for autopsy.

The second suspect was not identified by state police, and troopers said the investigation is ongoing.
