As a part of National Distracted Driving Awareness month, officers around the state are working harder to keep drivers from texting while behind the wheel.

Called "U Drive. U Text. You Pay," the program uses federal overtime funds to step up enforcement against driving texters.

Violators will have to pay $25 for their first offense and $50 for each additional offense, plus court costs.

To help prevent texting and driving, a new app called "Text Limit" has been created. It works by disabling the phone's ability to receive texts once a driver's vehicle sets a particular speed, which the driver can set. After the vehicle slows beneath that speed, texting becomes active again.

The Text Limit app is available at and costs $24.99 per year; free for the first year by using the code NOTEXTKY.
