Nine Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Nine people have died in nine separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, June 24th through Sunday, June 30th, 2013.

One single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Campbell, Estill, Floyd, Graves, Green and Pulaski. The victims in Campbell, Estill, Floyd, Graves, Green and Pulaski counties were not wearing seat belts. The crashes in Floyd and Green counties involved the suspected use of alcohol.

One single-fatality, motorcycle crash occurred in each of the following counties: McCracken and Rowan. The victim in Rowan County was not wearing a helmet.

One pedestrian was killed in Marshall County. The suspected use of alcohol was involved.

Through June 30th, statistics indicate that 310 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013. This is 62 less than reported for this time period in 2012. Of the 246 motor vehicle fatalities, 125 victims were not wearing seat belts. Twenty-eight of the 40 motorcycle fatalities were not wearing helmets. The two ATV fatalities were not wearing helmets. One bicycle rider has been killed. Twenty pedestrians have been killed. One fatality involving an animal drawn vehicle has been reported. A total of 64 fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol. As of June 30, Kentucky has had 40 days with zero highway fatalities reported during 2013.
