Nicholasville Police Officer Shot

Nicholasville Police said an officer was injured Friday night while exchanging gunfire with a man on Maple Leaf Drive.

Police said the officer is okay. 

His name hasn't been released.

Police said the officer got out with a suspicious subject who was walking on Maple Leaf Drive shortly after 8:00 p.m.

Police said when the officer exited his cruiser and went behind a house where he had seen the man, he was shot in his ballistic vest.

Police said the officer returned fire.  It was unclear if the suspect was hit.

Backup officers arrived on the scene quickly and began an immediate search of the area.

The Lexington Police Department's helicopter assisted with the search.

As of this writing, the suspect had not been found.

Police said the only description was a man wearing dark colored clothing.
