Nicholasville Petition Would Decide on City Government

Nicholasville is considering a change in its form of government.

Right now it has a city commission.

Some want to switch back to a city council, which is what Nicholasville had before 1972.

Supporters have submitted more than 3,000 names.

That's enough to get it on the November ballot.

In a commission government, commissioners could be from any part of town.

With a council, members are from specific districts, meaning every section of town has representation.

Perry Barnes supports council government and says, "They'd have better neighborhood representation and they would have a better choice and they have a choice for a councilman from their neighborhood, their area".

When Nicholasville changed to a commission government in 1972, it only passed by 2 votes.
