Nicholas County no longer has a fire department.
All 13 members of the department resigned Thursday night after months of tension and disagreement with the County Fire Board.
At the meeting, firefighters demanded that the board's members resign. When the board members refused to step down, the firefighters resigned.
Later, all but two of the board's members did quit.
"We're torn because we don't wanna leave the county uncovered, but the board won't work with us," said Matt Hughes, former assistant chief.
For now, the Carlisle City Fire Department will cover Nicholas County.
The county is expected to discuss a long-term solution on Friday.
