The YMCA of Central Kentucky is expanding in Lexington.

The non-profit group said it will create a new Y facility in the Hamburg area.

The YMCA had hoped to build in Hamburg back in 2009.

But it said the project just wasn't feasible with the recession.

The YMCA also unveiled its plans to expand the North Lexington Family Y to include an extra 3,500 square feet of fitness space.

The expansion will get a big boost from a $1.5 million matching gift from Lexmark.

The YMCA said it hoped to raise the additional $1.5 million by the end of the year so that it could begin construction.
