LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The University of Kentucky is looking for a developer to build and own a new $30 million, 600-bed dorm as
part of a plan to expand student housing at the school.
University President Eli Capilouto announced on Thursday that the dorm would open in 2013 as part of an effort to replace 4,000
of the school's 5,184 beds and create 4,000 more beds during the next decade. Only 684 of the university's existing dorm beds are in buildings considered modern.
Under the plan, the developer would own the dorm and collect rent from students while leasing the ground from the school. The school would have the option to buy the dorm when the lease expires.
