Drivers who cross the Kennedy Bridge on Highway 152 across Herrington Lake could soon have a new  bridge to drive over in a couple of years.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will hold a public meeting at Burgin Elementary School on Thursday at 5pm to show the public their designs for the bridge and get input on the project.

One of key issues of the 11 million dollar project, is where the new bridge will be located. The only other way around Herrington Lake takes more than half an hour to travel. Many believe the new bridge will have to be built next to the current one so drives can still use the current during construction.

The project is expected to start in 2013/2014.

The Kennedy Bridge is 88 years old and has been undergoing repairs for the last decade, including a new deck in 2003 and a lowering of the weight limit in 2007.
