National Guard Members Return Home

Members of the Kentucky National Guard Agribusiness Development Team 4 arrived home today after a year tour in Afghanistan.

Members of the Kentucky National Guard Agribusiness Development Team 4 arrived home today after a year tour in Afghanistan.

Family and friends waited anxiously for the soliders, whose plane was delayed because of the weather.

“When they've been gone for a year and you haven't gotten to see them,” said Heather Kerns, daughter of a guardsman. “And they've been in harms way, and they've been in a war zone, and knowing that they're going to be home safe with you... It brings a whole new meaning to having your family home.”

Team 4 went to Afghanistan last January to teach Afghan farmers how to be more self sufficient.

After being gone for the year, Donnie Brewer said there weren’t words to describe his emotions today.

“Butterflies, nervous, happy, overjoyed… I mean it's just... I'm shaking right now,” Brewer said, “And I’m pretty sure it's going to hit me all at once.”

Brewer also said he’s thankful to be spending his Grandson’s first Christmas with him.

“We just prayed we would get home before Christmas, and it's happened,” he said.

A 5th agribusiness team is now in Afghanistan carrying on the work of the soldiers that just returned home.

The Kentucky National Guard has more than 600 soldiers and airman deployed around the world.
