Meredith King and Gayle Mullins' families and friends are trying to keep their memory alive.  It was a year ago, November 30th, 2010, when the two women were shot to death inside this home on Hillsdale Avenue in Richmond.  Their bodies weren't found until a few days later.

"They both are missed," says King's sister Stephanie King-Bays.

To mark the anniversary of their deaths, a candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night on the steps of the Madison County Courthouse.  Mullins and King's loved ones held pictures, wore tee-shirts and buttons to remember them.

"It just means so much for everybody to come out and do this and, you know, that they would take time.  I know that it's a busy time, a busy season and cold.  But, just to honor their memory and celebrate their life, instead of trying to dwell on the tragedy," explains King-Bays.

Mullins' son and King's fiance, 38-year-old John Payne is charged with their murders.  He has pleaded not guilty.  The families want to make sure the alleged killer never gets out from behind bars.

"We still want justice and not to push it up underneath the rug.  He never needs to be where he can ever walk the streets again to be able to do this again to somebody," comments King's mother Sharlene Evans.

Payne is still being held in the Madison County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.  His trial was originally set to begin next Monday but has been delayed.
